Monitoring of local bone marrow activation during formation of murine aneurysm by 1H/19F MRI

Motivation: Aortic aneurysms represent a vascular disease with high morbidity and mortality rates, although underlying mechanisms still have limited understanding. Goal(s): This study aims to investigate the migration of immune cells from corresponding spinal bone marrow into the aortic wall during aneurysm formation. Approach: Using a murine aneurysm model, ¹H/19F MRI were employed to monitor aneurysm development and analyze the local immune response. Results: Increased inflammatory 19F signals in vertebral bone marrow and the aortic wall indicated an enhanced local immune response associated with aneurysm formation. These findings contribute to the understanding of aneurysm development and may aid in early detection and treatment strategies. Impact: By identifying early immune responses associated with aneurysm development, our approach paves the way for improved detection and treatment strategies, potentially helping to reduce morbidity and mortality in affected patients.
