Assessing MRI Facility Damage Post-Hurricane: Best Practices and Safety Considerations

Motivation: This study evaluates the unique challenges faced by MRI facilities in hurricane-prone regions, focusing on common types of damage such as water intrusion, power outages, and quench pipe blockages. Goal(s): This study provides a framework of best practices grounded in real-world challenges and highlights the importance of rapid assessment and recovery procedures to safeguard MRI facilities. Approach: A literature review and case analysis were conducted, focusing on published reports and empirical data from health facilities impacted by hurricanes. Results: This study emphasizes the critical importance of preventive measures in minimizing the impact of hurricanes on MRI facilities. Impact: This study offers actionable insights for MRI facilities to bolster hurricane preparedness, ensuring equipment safety and operational continuity by addressing risks related to water intrusion, power loss, and magnet quenching.
