How to improve an in-patient experience of cardiac magnetic resonance examination

Motivation: Patient cooperation is important to avoid motion and respiratory artifacts to achieve good diagnostic image quality with magnetic resonance. Goal(s): Primary goal was to understand patients' expression of participation in a sub-acute cardiac magnetic resonance examination. A secondary goal was to generate a working model that makes theese examinations more affordable for the patients. Approach: Individual interviews were conducted and the data was analyzed with thematic analysis. Results: Four themes were identified: Theme1: Accurate information based on the patient's needs Theme2: Feeling comfortable in the examination situation Theme3: Good communication with the radiographer Theme4: Information and training to improve participation in breath-holding Impact: Gain knowledge of what factors matter for the patient's experience of participation in the MRI setting gives us tools to improve the workflow, which benefits the patients and hopefully the image quality.
