MRS measurement of Chronic intermittent ethanol exposure effects on Metabolites alterations during withdrawal in mouse brain.
Motivation: Many brain chemicals are of critical importance in alcohol-related neuropathology and in fact are targeted by different measurement methodologies: molecular imaging methods such as PET and SPECT to study various receptors present in the brain. To create a measurable signal, however, it is necessary to inject specifically synthesized short-lived radioactive tracers into the blood stream Goal(s): Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) on the other hand does not require the use of an exogenous agent to yield a signal from chemicals in the brain. Approach: In vivo 1H MRS performed in a selected ROI Results: Myo-Ins depletion could be astrocytes response against cell swelling. Impact: In vivo 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopy techniques were applied to reveal biochemical changes in the mouse brain caused by prolonged ethanol consumption.
