Linking Gut Microbiota-Metabolite Profiles with MRE Features to Advance a Multi-omics Diagnostic Model for Bowel Damage in Crohn’ s Disease
Motivation: Accurately diagnosing bowel damage (BD) in Crohn's Disease (CD) is crucial, as BD reflects irreversible structural changes with high surgical risk, impacting patient prognosis. Goal(s): To develop a diagnostic model integrating Magnetic Resonance Enterography (MRE) with gut microbiota and metabolomic profiles, enhancing BD assessment precision in CD. Approach: A prospective study employing MRE, 16S rRNA sequencing, and targeted metabolomics to construct a multidimensional diagnostic model incorporating both structural imaging and molecular indicators of BD. Results: The model achieved strong diagnostic accuracy in identifying BD, with correlation analyses revealing microbial and metabolic signatures associated with specific MRE features, further elucidating BD' s biological characteristics. Impact: This study bridges advanced MRE imaging with microbial and metabolic insights, providing clinicians with a more comprehensive diagnostic tool. It enables precise risk stratification in CD, paving the way for targeted, prognostic-driven interventions and more personalized patient care.
