Brain Functional Atlas of Resting-State Networks Derived from Ultra-High Field 7 Tesla MRI

Motivation: Traditional lower-field MRIs lack the spatial resolution, and sensitivity necessary to fully explore the complexities of brain networks. To address these limitations, we utilize the advantages of 7T MRI to construct detailed functional atlases. Goal(s): To construct functional atlases as a normative reference for studies of neurological, psychiatric, and other brain-related disorders. Approach: Sixty-five healthy adults underwent 7T MRI. Structural and rsfMRI data were acquired. Preprocessing and ICA were performed to identify independent components, which were used to generate brain functional atlases. Results: Functional networks (sensorimotor, default mode, auditory, subcortical, cognitive executive, visual, and cerebellar) were identified and 3 brain atlases were constructed. Impact: 7T MRI functional brain atlas serves as a valuable tool for both basic and clinical neuroscience research, paving the way for groundbreaking discoveries and improved patient care.
