Amide proton transfer magnetic resonance imaging to assess protein metabolism in the brain of patients with T2DM and association with cognition
Motivation: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is growing rapidly worldwide. As the disease progresses, concomitant cognitive impairment is also a major problem in type 2 diabetes today. Goal(s): Finding metabolic alterations in the diabetic brain that are predictive of diabetes associated with cognition using imaging is the aim of our research endeavors. Approach: We have studied type 2 diabetes through amide proton transfer magnetic resonance imaging(APT-MRI). The cognitive correlation was explored by dividing it into three groups. Results: Our results show that APT imaging can reflect the metabolic status in the brain and predict the degree of cognitive function in patients with T2DM. Impact: This study demonstrates the value of APT imaging technology applied to type 2 diabetes and provides a new imaging method for assessing cognitive function in patients with type 2 diabetes, which is beneficial for clinicians to better monitor the condition.
