Maintenance and Rupture of Aesthetic Patterns in Brazilian Video Game Music

This article presents an analysis of four Brazilian games: Dodgeball Academia (2021), Unsighted (2021), Wolfstride (2021), and 99Vidas (2016). The focus is on identifying the musical genres used in these games and exploring how they are incorporated into the gameplay experience. The purpose of this analysis is to investigate the use of Brazilian musical genres in these games and how they represent cultural traits. The findings suggest that while 99Vidas explicitly promotes itself as a Brazilian game, the other games tend to minimize cultural identification. This may be due to a desire for international acceptance and the influence of foreign game production. However, the presence of cultural elements in 99Vidas shows that it is possible for game developers to incorporate Brazilian culture into their games, potentially fostering a unique and distinct Brazilian game industry. This study highlights the need for further investigation into the role of cultural representation in Brazilian game production. By incorporating more Brazilian cultural elements, game developers can not only promote cultural identity but also stimulate the growth of a unique and distinctive Brazilian game industry.
