Drilling Waste Transformation & Driving Circular Carbon Economy Research Proposal for Comprehensive Valorization Strategies
Abstract The oil and gas sector creates enormous volumes of drilling waste consisting of water-based and oil-based cuttings with varying material properties, which are significantly environmentally problematic and economically inefficient. This article proposes new methods for recycling drilling waste into several high-value products like construction materials, components for infrastructure, and specialty applications, reflecting the principles of a circular carbon economy from a holistic perspective. By integrating innovative processing technologies and green engineering approaches, we propose a new model of waste valorization that overcomes environmental, economic, and technological limitations in several industry sectors. The research project proposed here will systematically investigate the transformation of drilling waste to a series of value-added materials, including cement replacing materials, construction slabs and tiles, road base, land fillers, terra tiles, and asphalt additives. The research framework will include cutting-edge processing technologies, multi-functional material products, and extensive third-party validation processes. Preliminary estimates offer considerable promise for successful economic and environmental outcomes in a series of application areas, promoting circular carbon economy frameworks and sustainable use of resources.
