Sustainable Enhancement of Ramie/PEKK Natural Fibre Composites using Microfillers Reinforcement
This work presents the development of a sustainable high-performance hybrid composite using silane-treated Ramie fibres reinforced with poly-ether-ketone-ketone (PEKK) and micro-sized silicon powder fillers. Composites were fabricated using compression moulding, and characterized through standardized tests that the incorporation of 5% wt. silicon filler significantly enhanced the tensile strength of the composite from 91.2 MPa to 104.7 MPa, Flexural Strength from 117.8 MPa to 135.7 MPa, Interlaminar Shear Strength from 24 MPa to 29 MPa, Impact strength from 18.7 MPa to 21.1 MPa, thermal conductivity improvement from 0.29 W/mK to 0.37 W/mK, and reduced wear and water absorption. The outcomes highlight silicon micro fillers as an effective reinforcing agent for improving the mechanical robustness and versatile performance of the eco-friendly fibre strengthened thermoplastic materials. The reduction in voids and enhanced filler distribution in the silicon infused composites through SEM imaging is confirmed. The execution of the produced hybrid composite is seen as a superior choice for eco-friendly housing applications, wherein thermal regulation, shape retention and outdoor stability are extremely important. Ecological balance is gained by infusing regenerative Ramie fibres, lessening the dependence upon petroleum-origin composites, thus improving the product’s lifetime with respect to exceptional thermal endurance and using re-utilizable PEKK thermoplastic. Hence the Ramie/PEKK/silicon hybrid composite delivers a practical sustainable option for the electronics field lending support in terms of execution and eco-consiousness.
