AgriTech: An Integrated Web Application for Ethical Crop Management

Agriculture is a crucial sector that determines a country’s economy and it contributes significantly towards its employment, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and food security. The methods used in agriculture, need to be ethical to maintain the ecological balance. For example, over use of fertilizers and pesticides along with lack of practices for maintaining the soil nutrients in farming, disrupt the ecological balance. An ethical crop management is a crucial process of agriculture, involving several factors like weather, soil, crop rotation, plant disease, pest, and weed infestations. Technological advancements, like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine learning (ML), and Internet of Things (IoT) have changed the agricultural practices, and are helping boost agricultural productivity. Literature survey shows that most of earlier work deals with one or two functionalities like crop recommendation or pest detection. In comparison, in this paper an integrated approach of combining plant disease detection, pest infestation detection, crop recommendation, and fertilizer recommendation, called AgriTech is described. AgriTech is a novel integrated web application having the advantages of increasing crop yield and quality, while avoiding wastage of resources, encouraging sustainable and ethical farming. The paper describes the design and implementation of AgriTech, along with sample results from the working prototype.
