Magnetic field on graphene oxide liquid dispersion
Flakes of graphene, as well as of graphene oxide, have a very high aspect ratio that can be as large as 100000. These very large aspect ratios are expected to result in very low concentrations needed for the appearance of the liquid crystal phase. The properties of the flakes are also expected to provide remarkable macroscopic properties, tunable with external fields. Magnetic fields have been used here to study the ordering effect on different types of graphene-based dispersions. We will describe the experimental findings on the response that depends critically on the type of graphene oxide dispersion. More specifically, the response varies between graphene oxides from different sources, a reason being the dimension of the flakes, but other factors, connected to the structure and composition of the flakes, can also play a role.
