Sunshades and out-of-field stray light performance for well-baffled systems

Does an optical system need to have a sunshade? Does it need to have vanes? One or two stages? This paper explores sunshade design and how it impacts an optical system's out-of-field stray light performance. These sunshade design decisions can be intuitive to an experienced stray light analyst, but are presented here with the intent of demystifying these decisions to a broader audience.

Abstract

Does an optical system need to have a sunshade? Does it need to have vanes? One or two stages? This paper explores sunshade design and how it impacts an optical system's out-of-field stray light performance. These sunshade design decisions can be intuitive to an experienced stray light analyst, but are presented here with the intent of demystifying these decisions to a broader audience.
