COMMUNICATION IN CRISIS AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS – A PSYCHOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

Communication is the Alpha and Omega of all our relationships and, as such, significantly impacts the quality of our daily lives. The art of communication has always intrigued its contemporaries—from public speaking in ancient marketplaces to today’s short online video clips. The reason lies in a simple truth: an individual’s entire process of self-improvement, reflection, and observation is ultimately validated through interaction with others. The importance of communication skills and appropriate approaches becomes especially pronounced in crisis and emergency situations, whether personal or professional. Responding appropriately in a difficult moment—explaining, calming, and reacting from the psychological ego state of the “Adult”—is not always easy. For this reason, increasing attention is being devoted to this topic, as communication in crises requires a deeper approach than conventional business or operational methods. It needs to be viewed through a psychological lens to be better understood and improved—which is the main focus of this paper
