Impact as an Indicator of Faculty Success—Amplifying Research and Teaching Excellence
This paper explores faculty success as a reflection of faculty’s broad impact on student development, research, and community engagement. Whether through teaching, research, or service, faculty play a pivotal role in shaping the holistic growth of students and advancing the institution’s mission. Given the highly personalized nature of success, administrators can find it challenging to design faculty-success initiatives that are both humanistic and person-centered while also building institutional capacity. In this context, success is not merely an individual achievement but a reflection of the collective ability to generate sustained, positive outcomes that resonate beyond the classroom and into wider societal and educational contexts. Using the 4M framework—micro, meso, macro, and mega—the authors present four diverse case studies that showcase how faculty impact resonates across different societal and educational levels.
