Carbon-To-Cashflow: Building Competitive Advantage Through Integrated Reservoir Management Systems

Abstract This paper presents an integrated reservoir management approach – termed "Carbon-to- Cashflow" – that combines advanced reservoir engineering, intelligent well control, digital twin technology, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) to deliver competitive advantages in mature oilfields. Focusing on China's major basins (Daqing,Changqing, Tarim), we develop a comprehensive workflow encompassing static modeling, dynamic simulation, real-time data integration, and optimized CO2-EOR operations. A representative case study is constructed using industry-standard platforms (Petrel for geological modeling, Eclipse/CMG for simulation, OFM for surveillance), and includes technical validation through history-matching and sensitivity analysis. The integrated system enables real-time optimization of multizone intelligent completions and closed-loop control of injection and production, guided by a digital twin of the reservoir. Simulation results demonstrate that coupling CCUS with intelligent reservoir management can increase oil recovery by over 10% while sequestering significant CO2 volumes, turning climate liabilities into financial assets. Economic analysis indicates a net present value (NPV) uplift attributable to carbon credits and extended field life. The findings underscore that an integrated "digital oilfield" framework – from subsurface modeling to surface facilities and market mechanisms – is essential for maximizing recovery and profitability in China's oilfields under carbon-constrained conditions. The paper concludes with best practices for implementation and discusses the implications for sustaining production in aging reservoirs while meeting carbon neutrality goals.

Abstract
