I‐II Mixed Fracture Characterization of Hot Mix Asphalt With Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement and Glass Fiber Under the Low Temperature

ABSTRACT In this study, asymmetrical semi‐circular bending (ASCB) tests were conducted to study the effects of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and glass fiber on the fracture properties of asphalt mixtures under −10 °C. Results showed that the fracture tests showed that the optimum glass fiber content was 0.05%. In addition, when RAP content increased from 20 to 40%, the fracture toughness would be reduced. Transitioning from pure mode I to pure mode II, the effective stress intensity factor ( K eff ) exhibited an initial decrease followed by an increase. Among mixtures incorporating type A binder, the blend comprising 20% RAP and 0.05% fiber (R1‐G1) demonstrated superior K eff values across all loading conditions. In mixtures with type B binder, the optimal dosage also involved a 0.05% content of glass fiber. Additionally, the prediction accuracy of the maximum tangential stress and generalized maximum tangential stress criteria depends on the compositions of the mixtures.
