Rock Physics as a Constraint in Acoustic Full Waveform Inversion: Insights from a Land Seismic Study
Summary This study demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating rock physics constraints into Acoustic Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) workflows for land seismic data, aiming to overcome challenges caused by complex near-surface complexities. Using a 3D seismic dataset processed with pre-stack depth migration (PSDM) techniques, an initial compressional wave velocity (Vp) model was constructed utilizing elastic logs and merged with a refraction tomography model. This well-informed model was then used to constrain the FWI algorithm, enhancing inversion stability and accuracy. The results show that applying rock physics constraints significantly improves the resolution and reliability of the subsurface velocity model, better capturing lateral variations and geological features.
