Rock Physics Diagnostics of Injectites versus Motherbeds in a North Sea Turbidite Field
Summary This study explores the rock physics properties of injectites and mother beds in the Grane/Breidablikk area of the North Sea, focusing on the impact of the transition zone between mechanical and chemical compaction on these properties. Key findings include: Paleocene sands in the North Sea exhibit varying degrees of cementation and sorting, affecting their elastic properties. Injectites typically have cement volumes less than 1–2%, and are potentially unconsolidated at shallower depths. Heimdal Formation sandstones display slightly higher velocities and more cementation compared to injectites. These results are important in the assessment of AVO signatures of Paleocene reservoirs in the Grane/Breidablikk area.
