Unlocking the Ultra-Deep with the Ultra-Fars
Summary Ultra-far offset stacks, typically around 40° incidence, closely replicate key AVO-based hydrocarbon indicators such as Lamé parameter contrast, Extended Elastic Impedance (EEI), and the Fluid Factor. These attributes are highly sensitive to fluid content and are widely used in identifying porous, hydrocarbon-bearing sandstones. In deep-water environments with long-offset streamer data, far-offset stacks are well-imaged and readily available. The paper shows that such stacks provide a practical, efficient alternative to more complex AVO workflows, enabling interpreters to identify reservoir quality zones with confidence. Their mathematical equivalence to established indicators makes them powerful tools in modern exploration.
