Implantation of the Micra AV Leadless Pacemaker in a Patient with Bilateral Deep Brain Stimulation – A Case Report

<ns3:p>Electrotherapy plays a key role in the treatment of cardiac rhythm disorders and has increasingly been utilized for the management of neurological, psychiatric, and pain disorders in recent years. There is a growing need for the implantation of devices in patients with existing implants, which raises the risk of interactions between them. In the presented case, a 77-year-old man with Parkinson's disease, who had undergone bilateral deep brain stimulation implantation in 2016, developed episodes of complete atrioventricular block. Given the presence of a deep brain stimulation pulse generator in the right supraclavicular area and an electrode for brain stimulation in the subcutaneous tissue on the left side, there was a risk of damaging the previously implanted system during conventional pacemaker implantation. To mitigate this risk, it was decided to implant the Micra AV leadless pacemaker. The procedure was uncomplicated, and the stimulation parameters were normal, with no observed interference between the systems.</ns3:p>
