Synthesis of hydroxyl functionalized aryl/alkyl ketones via visible-light-driven cross-coupling of benzoquinones and alcohols at room temperature

A simple photochemical method for the hydroacylation of benzoquinone with alcohol was developed at room temperature. Herein, the photo excited benzoquinone and singlet oxygen play key roles in the formation of 2,5-dihydroxy aryl/alkyl ketones.
