Ipotesi sulle origini della festa: le Quadriglie del carnevale di Palma Campania tra migrazione culturale e radicamento endogeno
This contribution examines the Carnival of Palma Campania, near Na-ples, as a dynamic ritual space shaped by both local rootedness and cultural mi-gration. Through in-depth ethnographic research, the author investigates the ori-gins of the quadriglie—spectacular formations combining live music, choreogra-phy, and elaborate costumes—proposing a dual genealogy: one endogenous, linked to the agrarian ritual cycles of rural Campania, and one exogenous, tied to cultural flows between Naples and its hinterland. The carnival is framed as a symbolic la-boratory for negotiating identity, memory, and processes of heritage-making, wherein social tensions and communal affiliations are continuously rearticulated. Musical practices, in particular, function as semiotic and affective codes, generat-ing cohesion and a sense of belonging.
