Design and Simulation of a Portable Electric Scooter

Increased demand for eco-friendly urban mobility has driven research towards portable electric scooters as a light, efficient means of short-distance travel. This research involves designing, simulating a portable electric scooter with a 450 W BLDC motor and a 36 V lithium-ion battery. The scooter's top speed of 28 kmph is targeted with a load of up to 100 kg. The control of a motor employs a PID tuning mechanism adopted from genetic algorithm (GA) for optimal speed and torque control. The energy management facilitates a bidirectional buck-boost converter for efficient battery-motor power transfer. The simulation of the scooter uses MATLAB Simulink software to analyze motor performance, torque behavior, and energy efficiency. Structural analysis evaluates frame strength under dynamic load conditions. The results show that the designed scooter ensures stable, efficient performance under different working conditions. This research aids in eco-friendly transport solutions, illustrating practical implementation of electric scooters as a means of urban transport.
