Research on Adaptive Control of Rotational Inertia of Virtual Synchronous Generator
It is evident that a significant proportion of renewable energy is being integrated into microgrids, the frequency stability problem is becoming increasingly problematic due to degradation of system inertia and damping characteristics. Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) technology provides virtual inertia and damping for power electronics by simulating synchronous generator rotor kinematics, but its fixed parameters are difficult to adapt to the regulation demand under dynamic working conditions. To address this problem, the construction of the VSG small-signal model was initiated, and the impact of varying rotational inertia and damping coefficients on the system's output was examined through simulations. The damping coefficient has been observed to increase, and thus the present paper puts forward a proposal for an adaptive control strategy for the virtual rotational inertia, with the aim of dealing with differing working conditions. The simulation results demonstrate that the rotational inertia adaptive control strategy is capable of enhancing the transient performance of the system, thereby improving the operational performance of the microgrid.
