Structural optimization of 50 kg hydrogen storage system based on multiphysics field simulation

Under the background of the global energy transition and the "double carbon" goal, hydrogen energy, as a clean and efficient secondary energy source, has attracted much attention, and the high-pressure hydrogen storage system has become the focus of R&D. The 50 kg high-pressure hydrogen storage system of a Shanghai-Based company is used as a research target. Taking a 50 kg high-pressure hydrogen storage system of a company in Shanghai as the research object, this system needs high-temperature airflow to make the magnesium hydride uniformly heated during the hydrogen release stage to enhance the hydrogen release efficiency. Using Ansys Fluent 2022 software and Realizable k-ε turbulence model, five sets of typical working conditions were constructed to study the influence of the deflector plate structure on the heat transfer and flow characteristics of the hydrogen storage system. Through the temperature distribution, exit velocity and temperature distribution characteristics of the hydrogen storage device, it is found that Case 4 (the full extension of the deflector plate to 75% of the width of the shell) is able to improve the heat transfer efficiency, optimize the uniformity of the temperature field, ensure the uniform distribution of the exit velocity, and achieve high efficiency of heat transfer, which provides a basis for the design and structural optimization of the deflector plate of the hydrogen storage system, and has a certain value of reference for the promotion of the engineering and application of the hydrogen storage equipment.
