Virtual Synchronous Control of Brushless Doubly-Fed Induction Generators Based on Control Winding Flux Regulation
Traditional current-source-type wind turbine generators (WTGs) lack inherent inertia and voltage support capabilities for power grids, often leading to instability when integrated into weak grids characterized by high impedance and low short-circuit ratios. Virtual Synchronous Control (VSC), which emulates the operational mechanisms of synchronous generators, has emerged as an effective solution to these challenges. This study focuses on a brushless doubly-fed induction generator (BDFIG) and proposes a VSC strategy based on control winding (CW) flux regulation. The strategy eliminates the need for rotational coordinate transformations, directly regulating the phase angle and amplitude of the CW flux linkage in the CW stationary reference frame, with power winding (PW) active power and PW terminal voltage as control targets. A simulation model is developed in MATLAB/Simulink to validate the BDFIG’s ability to provide grid voltage stabilization and inertial support under the proposed control strategy.
