IoT-Enabled Smart Helmet for Accident Detection and Rider Safety Compliance
To increase motor vehicle riders’ safety, this article suggests the development and deployment of a smart helmet system. For automated response and real-time supervision, the system includes several sensors, such as an MQ-3 alcohol sensor, global positioning system (GPS), global system for mobile communications (GSM), and a three-axis accelerometer, in addition to a radio frequency (RF) connection. The helmet prevents ignition to ensure safety compliance in situations where alcohol is detected and helmet is not worn. When an accident occurs and the rider does not respond within 30 seconds, the X, Y, and Z axes’ acceleration is tracked, and real-time SMS alerts are delivered to the emergency registered mobile number. With its excellent position-tracking precision, the GPS module enables a quicker response to emergencies. Through simulation and testing with the Arduino IDE and Proteus software, the system’s dependable functioning has been proven. This smart helmet type offers a practical way to lessen motorcycle-related accidents and fatalities by including preventive measures and a real-time alerting system.
