Comparative Analysis of Cold Energy Utilization Systems in LNG Terminals
The position of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a clean and efficient energy source in China is becoming increasingly important. LNG terminals possess a large amount of high-grade cold energy, which is commonly used in power generation, air separation, seawater desalination, and low-temperature storage. The proper utilization of cold energy can conserve resources and contribute to environmental protection. Taking a 3 million tons per year LNG terminal as an example, this article proposes a simple and achievable LNG cold energy utilization system. Through simulation and economic analysis using HYSYS software, the economic analysis reveals a positive correlation between capital investment and revenue generation. The comprehensive utilization system demonstrates annual returns 8.6-fold and 3.1-fold higher than those of the single-stage and two-stage Rankine cycle systems.
