La Educación En Chiapas: Una Reconstrucción Histórica De La Salud Escolar (XIX-XX)

The article offers a study on school health as one of the less addressed aspects in the field of public education in Chiapas. In it, I draw on historical perspectives as a way to reconstruct the process by which school health was constantly threatened by epidemic diseases and public unsanitary conditions, factors that affected the educational process. The article emphasizes the relationship between health and education and the actions it motivated among the governments in power. Everything is reconstructed in a context referred to as the transition between the 19th and 20th centuries, when Chiapas education faced serious organizational problems. I also try to show that the constant struggle of administrative authorities to ensure physical health and cleanliness in the streets led to the emergence of a hygiene ideology that sooner or later influenced the way education was practiced. Seen this way, the central premise of the article is that education, and specifically the school, became important areas for organizing the fight against public unsanitary conditions.
