Designing nonlinear optical structures with ferroelectric liquid crystals
Ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals (FNLCs) exhibit an outstanding combination of nonlinear optical (NLO) properties and alignment control, making them a promising candidate for future photonic applications. Based on our previous work, in which we demonstrated that the most efficient structure for designing 2D SHG active arrays in FNLCs is the twisted structure, here we explore via optical simulations twisted 2D patterns of DIO, which shows comparable values of d33 and d15 NLO coefficients in order to determine the optimal thickness for optimal contrast.
