A deep dive into how the heavy atom effect can be exploited to improve the performance of MR-TADF emitters and OLEDs

Solution-processed OLEDs (SP-OLEDs) are a potentially attractive alternative to vacuum-deposited devices as they can be fabricated at reduced cost. Device performance has consistently lagged vacuum-deposited OLEDs, even in cases where the emitter is the same. Here, I will present our recent work that addresses issues of efficiency, roll-off, and color purity by designing next-generation thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters explicitly conceived to be used in SP-OLEDs.

Abstract

Solution-processed OLEDs (SP-OLEDs) are a potentially attractive alternative to vacuum-deposited devices as they can be fabricated at reduced cost. Device performance has consistently lagged vacuum-deposited OLEDs, even in cases where the emitter is the same. Here, I will present our recent work that addresses issues of efficiency, roll-off, and color purity by designing next-generation thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters explicitly conceived to be used in SP-OLEDs.
