Optimization of deformed helix ferroelectric liquid crystal materials for spatial light modulators
This work delves into the exploration and refinement of deformed helix ferroelectric liquid crystal (DHFLC) materials for Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs) that have garnered significant attention due to their ability to achieve high modulation bandwidths in both spatial and temporal domains. Optimization of DHFLC materials is a multifaceted process where all their key parameters must be achieved simultaneously. It is reported on chemical design of components and the composing of DHFLC materials that simultaneously combine key parameters close to an optimal level: independently controllable both helix pitch (80-200 nm) and spontaneous polarization (80-240 nC/cm2); fast response (<400 μs at <6 V), high tilt angle (>40), which is low-dependent on temperature, a wide SmC* temperature range (from <10 to >90 C). The materials can be used in an SLM either in a planar or vertical alignment boundary conditions.
