Practice and Preparation in Advocacy Public Speaking
This article analyzes preparation and rehearsal as vital elements of effective public speaking in non-profit advocacy. It examines techniques such as mirror practice, recording and review, mock presentations, and timed rehearsals, showing how these approaches build confidence, clarity, and audience connection. The discussion highlights the role of feedback from peers and communities in refining both content and delivery, while also addressing strategies for managing anxiety through breathing, visualization, and positive affirmations. Special consideration is given to challenges faced by non-native speakers and methods to overcome them. Case examples from health, education, and environmental advocacy demonstrate how preparation ensures authenticity, resonance, and impact. By integrating rehearsal, feedback, and anxiety management, the article positions preparation not as a technical step but as a strategic process that transforms advocacy into confident and persuasive communication.
