Metacognitive strategies in the system of training chess athletes
The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between metacognitive strategies and indicators of mental self-regulation in chess players during the process of sports training. Materials and methods. The study involved 50 highly qualified chess players aged 18 to 25. The empirical study was conducted using the questionnaire “Difficulties of Self-Regulation in Sport-Related Situations” by A. E. Lovyagina and the questionnaire “Style of Self-Regulation of Behavior” by V. I. Morosanova. The obtained data were analyzed using mathematical statistics. Results. The conducted study allowed to identify three groups of situations in which it was difficult for athletes to make a decision. Chess players demonstrated the relationship between the choice of actions necessary to achieve the set goal and the establishment of their sequence with increased control of cognitive processes. The study showed that the frequency of using metacognitive strategies can be adjusted taking into account the gender of athletes and the set goals to improve the effectiveness of the training process.
