Innovative aqua-mimicry in aquaculture
Aqua-mimicry maybe defined as a practice of drawing inspiration from the natural habitat of aquatic organisms to solve problems. This technology enhances sustainability, production and improve aquatic animal welfare. Intensive aquaculture faces significant challenges due to the accumulation of organic debris and nutrient-rich effluents, leading to pollution and eutrophication. High stocking densities often result in poor water quality, increasing disease vulnerability and dependency on chemicals. Aqua-mimicry, has emerged as a solution, inspired by natural systems to create sustainable aquaculture practices. This approach emphasizes microbial applications to enhance pond health and reduce inputs, drawing from bio floc technology to maintain water quality and promote efficient production. The article reviews the principles and explores the applications of this along with highlighting some of the case studies.
