Synthesis of Metal-Organic Framework -235 (MOF-235) Materials Directed Towards the Application of Amoxicillin Residue Treatment in Water

A porous metal-organic framework, MOF-235, was used in this study to remove the Amoxicilin (AMX) antibiotics in aqueous solution. The orange octahedral crystals MOF-235 was prepared by simple hydrothermal method and characterized with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathrm{N}_{2}$</tex> sorption analysis. The AMX adsorption ability of MOF-235 were carefully investigated. The results revealed that the AMX adsorption on MOF-235 may be best described by pseudo-second order model. The AMX adsorption isotherm was consistent with Langmuir model, and the maximum absorption capacity at room conditions was <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$139.6 \text{mg} / \mathrm{g}$</tex>. Moreover, the used MOF-235 could be regenerated by simple washing with ethanol, so it can be recycled for reuse. These results make MOF-235 promising for the removal of AMX contaminant from water.
