Optimization and Techno-Economic Analysis of an On-Grid Hybrid Energy System for Electrification Using Solar, Biogas, and BESS via HOMER Pro: A Case Study in Vietnam
Nowadays, renewable energy sources are now being increasingly integrated across the globe to promote sustainable energy development and reduce carbon emissions to the environment. Recognizing this, the Vietnamese government has introduced various policies and guidelines to promote the implementation of renewable energy, aligning with the national commitment to achieve Net Zero targets by 2050. However, one of the most significant challenges in achieving this goal lies in the simulation and preliminary design phase, where ensuring technical and economic optimization prior to project implementation is critical. This paper examines the optimal configuration and analyzes financially and technically a hybrid energy system (HES) that consists of photovoltaic (PV) panels, biogas, a battery energy storage system (BESS), and grid connectivity, using simulations conducted with HOMER Pro software.
