Improved Control Strategy for Energy Routers in DC Microgrids with Hybrid Energy Storage
The intermittency of renewable energy generation and frequent load switching are major challenges to maintaining power balance in DC microgrids. Implementing a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) composed of batteries and supercapacitors is an effective solution for power buffering. As the core device integrating these two complementary energy storage media, the energy router plays a crucial role in ensuring effective power management and maximizing their respective advantages. This paper proposes an improved control strategy to address the issue of battery response delay inherent in conventional power splitting methods. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed strategy enables effective coordination between the battery and supercapacitor under varying time-scale power fluctuations. It ensures a fast and stable system response while mitigating battery stress and extending its service life.
