Investigation of Seam Strength and Elasticity Under Influence of Sewing Thread Parameters
The research investigates the role of sewing thread parameters in influencing seam strength and durability in garments. The seam quality significantly impacts garment integrity, and achieving durability is critical for ensuring product performance. These attributes depend not only on fabric properties and seam types but also on the characteristics of the sewing threads such as thread composition, thickness, twist, and structure. It proposes methods for assessing these properties to improve product quality and the experiments were conducted on knitted and woven fabrics, focusing on straight seams made with types of lock stitches and overlock stitches. Laboratory tests assessed variations in seam strength under various thread configurations. The findings highlight that seam performance is intricately linked to thread specifications. Threads with optimal twist levels and balanced structural properties enhance seam durability as maintaining flexibility. The work also emphasizes the importance of selecting threads tailored to the fabric type and intended use of the garment. By exploring a broader range of thread characteristics, the study provides practical guidelines for thread selection, contributing to the production of higherquality garments and fostering innovation in textile manufacturing processes.
