An Iterative Learning Control Mechanism for the Statcom to Stabilize Voltage in Distribution Networks

In order to improve stability and voltage quality in the distribution power system, this paper describes the creation of an iterative learning control (ILC) applied to a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) using a voltage source converter (VSC). With the involvement of STATCOM in the operation process, reactive power can be injected or absorbed into the system in response to transitory failures, abrupt changes in power flow, or voltage disturbances. PSCAD simulation software is used to confirm the controller's effectiveness. Based on its capacity to maintain voltage amplitude stability, enhance power quality, and assist the system's renewable energy components in maintaining steady output power in the steady-state mode, the simulation outcomes illustrate the advantages of the proposed ILC controller. When the system experiences major disruptions or transitory malfunctions, the voltage parameters quickly recover.
