Active RIS-Aided Full-Duplex Cell-Free Massive MIMO for Mobile Wireless Networks of Limited Capacity

In the era of fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks and the impending advent of sixth-generation (6G) networks, the demand for higher data rates, improved spectral efficiency, and seamless user experiences is exponentially growing. One of the promising countermeasures is the integration of active reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) with full-duplex (FD) cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (CFm-MIMO) systems, catering to the dynamic mobility of users and limited fronthaul resources. However, the feasibility of such system is questionable. To cover this research gap, this paper presents a comprehensive outage performance analysis of the FD CFm-MIMO system, considering the impact of the realistic parameters, such as user mobility, partial channel state information (CSI), and limited fronthaul capacity. In this direction, we provide a tight approximation for the outage probability. The findings of this research underscore the pivotal role of user mobility, CSI accuracy, configuration of active RIS, users and access point antennas, and quantization parameters on the outage performance of the active RIS-assisted FD CFm-MIMO wireless system.
