The Evolutionary Map of the Universe

We present the Evolutionary Map of the Universe (EMU) survey conducted with the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP).EMU aims to deliver the touchstone radio atlas of the southern hemisphere. It is one of the two largest survey programs being conducted with ASKAP, together with the WALLABY HI survey of the hemisphere. There is also a polarisation survey, called POSSUM, being delivered independently, using the same observational data as that delivered for the EMU survey.EMU will detect about 20 million extragalactic radio sources to a 5 limit of 100 Jy beam -1 .Of these, about 4-5 million will have radio emission dominated by supermassive black holes in galaxy nuclei, while 15-16 million will have emission dominated by star formation in galaxies. This presentation will review EMU's science drivers and key science goals, and present a selection of recent scientific highlights to demonstrate the scope and impact of the project. The development of the survey strategy and planned sky coverage will be discussed, along with the operational aspects of the survey and associated data analysis, as well as a selection of diagnostics demonstrating the imaging quality and data characteristics.A general description of the value-added data pipeline and data products will also be touched on, before concluding with a discussion of EMU's links to other surveys and projects, and an outline of EMU's legacy value.
