Plasma-Based Reconfigurable Metagratings for Electromagnetic Beam Steering
This work proposes the combination of plasma discharges with high-refractive-index dielectric materials to create a reconfigurable meta-grating capable of steering the direction of incident electromagnetic waves. The design utilizes cylindrical plasma discharges confined within high-permittivity dielectric shells. The unique electromagnetic behavior of both the plasma, with negative epsilon below its plasma frequency, and the shell, supporting dipolar electric and magnetic Mie resonances, is exploited.Additionally, it is shown that varying the plasma frequency through different ignition conditions of the discharge enables control over the beam steering direction. This approach demonstrates a novel method for dynamic manipulation of wave propagation.
