Lightning and whistlers
Lightning-a powerful natural electrical discharge occurring in mature stage of thunderstorms more than 50 times per second worldwide-is an impressive commonly known geophysical phenomenon. While we have now a relatively comprehensive picture of lightning phenomenology, many aspects of its characteristics and effects remain poorly understood. One of the key challenges in lightning research arises from its unpredictability and randomness in both time and space.
