Electro-Optic Modulator for THz-optical Signal Conversion using Meta-surface Structure

We propose a transparent electro-optic (EO) modulator for THz-optical signal conversion using a meta-surface structure. The EO modulator is based on an inductive-capacitive resonator known as an electric-field coupled (ELC).This design also proposes a polarization reversal scheme by shifting the capacitance element along the gap for modulation efficiency. The design is simulated using the HFSS simulation software. The results of the transmission coefficient show that the THz wireless signal 87.3% passes through the structure, which means that the metasurface structure has transparent properties. The modulation index is calculated by integrating the electric field as observed by the lightwave (LW) and the result shows that the highest modulation index occure at 0.1 THz.
