Enabling Reconfigurable Antenna Radiation Patterns Using Self-Tuning Metasurfaces with Pulse-Width Selectivity
This paper introduces a self-reconfigurable metasurface technology that enhances wireless communication adaptability by selectively controlling radiation and scattering in both the frequency and time domains. As IoT, 5G, and beyond demand more efficient spectrum utilization, conventional fixed-frequency antennas struggle to keep pace.To overcome this limitation, we propose metasurfaces embedded with nonlinear circuits that dynamically adjust their response based on incoming signal temporal pulse-width properties. We validate this approach through two antenna designs: a filtering aperture antenna and a beam-steering metasurface array. The results highlight the potential of this technology for nextgeneration adaptive and efficient communication systems.
