A Millimeter-wave Compact Aperture Coupled Microstrip Antenna with Improved Characteristics Based on LTCC
In this paper, a millimeter-wave DGS integrated LTCC based aperture coupled compact microstrip antenna resonating at 27.7 GHz (with bandwidth 26.5-29 GHz i.e. 9% fractional bandwidth) has been investigated thoroughly.Instead of using LTCC tapes with higher dielectric constants, here, LTCC tapes with low dielectric constant (r= 3.5) has been used in full wave simulations.Furthermore, the ground plane dimension is much compact and miniaturised i.e. 0.500.90for the proposed antenna structure, and, it has not hampered the radiation patterns and antenna reflection coefficient. The The peak co-polarised gain is around 6.6 dBi in both principal planes and peak co-polar to cross-polar radiation isolation level is around 27 dB.In the present structure, minimal perturbations in terms of DGSs have been used to improve impedance and radiation characteristics of such extreme compact antenna.
