A (sub)millimeter Telescope on the Tibetan Plateau
Recent breakthroughs in high-resolution, high-frequency astronomical observations-such as those achieved by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) and the Global Millimeter VLBI Array (GMVA)-have provided critical insights into the nature of black holes, accretion dynamics, and relativistic jets. However, most stations in these arrays-and those proposed or planned to enhance the angular resolution, sensitivity, and temporal coverage of current observations-are located in the Western Hemisphere. This leaves a significant gap in the Eastern Hemisphere, making global imaging observations with continuous time coverage-essential for capturing the first black hole movies-more challenging.
