ANÁLISE DAS COMPLICAÇÕES ANESTÉSICAS LOCAIS ASSOCIADAS À REMOÇÃO DE TERCEIROS MOLARES: UMA REVISÃO DE LITERATURA

ABSTRACT Local anesthesia is an essential tool in the dental practice, especially in surgical procedures such as third molar exudation. Its correct application ensures patient comfort and enables the safe performance of interventions. However, even if it is considered a routine procedure, local complications can occur that compromise the success of treatment and recovery of the patient. Therefore, this work aims to analyze the main local complications associated with local anesthesia in third molar exodontia. As a research problem, it is asked: “what are the most common local complications related to local anesthesia in these procedures and which factors contribute to their occurrence?” To answer this question, a narrative literature review was conducted based on 21 scientific articles published between 2010 and 2024, in addition to the analysis of technical content of Stanley F. Malamed’s Manual of Local Anesthesia. The most reported complications include paresthesia, trismus, hematoma, needle fracture and soft tissue lesions, usually associated with inadequate anesthetic technique, anatomical variations or individual response to drugs. It is therefore considered that the in-depth knowledge of these complications is indispensable to prevent damage, establish effective procedures and promote greater patient safety during and after dental surgery. Keywords: Paresthesia. Exodontia. Third molar. Anesthetic complications.
